Agroforestry Tree Planting

Let’s plant some trees! Here at Wild East, we are focused on integrating animals and trees into food systems that are truly perennial. This March we are planting hundreds of fruit and nut trees as we lay the groundwork for decades of perennial production on the farm.

Agroforestry systems integrate trees and shrubs into a farm landscape. The plants we’ve selected offer many yields, including fruit, nuts, fiber, animal fodder, and medicine- all while increasing biodiversity, improving soil health, and buffering impacts of climate change.

We’re excited for the initial planting to be a community-supported project and are inviting volunteers to be part of the fun. In joining us, you will gain hands-on experience in planting out a farm-scale food forest and will gain an understanding of the tools, techniques, and methods for proper tree planting- plus you’ll meet some lovely people and head home with a bare-root tree.

What to expect:

We’ll be planting trees from March 4-March 8. We have numerous 3 hour spots available for volunteers so you can sign up for whichever works best for your schedule. You will be working in a small group to plant trees- specific tasks you will be assigned to will vary and could include sheet mulching, digging holes, planting, installing tree protection, fertilizing, etc. This is gratifying, important, and physical work; please be prepared to be outdoors and moving your body for the duration of your volunteer time.

Light snacks and drinks will be provided. Rustic outhouse onsite. We cannot accommodate dogs or children for this event.

Please arrive with:

-a waterbottle

-clothes you can get dirty

-collaborative mindset

-willingness to work

Accessibility:

This event will be entirely outdoors and is physically intensive and will involve walking, carrying, bending, sitting, digging, kneeling, etc. Primary language of communicating will be English, though our farm manager also speaks Spanish and can communicate in Spanish if needed. Please reach out if you have specific accessibility needs prior to signing up so we can discuss our ability to meet those needs.
